Marriage is considered as the most holy rituals in the world. No matter in which corner of the world you belong, it is celebrated as the most important event in our life.

Across the world people follow their own tradition to complete this holy ritual in happy and magnificent way. Today you will know about unusual wedding traditions from around the world that may surprise you or make you feel weird or some may even offensive and some traditions you may find interesting that you also may wish to have in your country.

1. Nepal and India: Hiding shoes of groom

In Hindu religion when a bride and groom sit on the temple or Jagya for taking pheras which means rounding the holy fire called Jagya while chanting the mantra by the priest, they have to complete the rituals on their bare foot.

In this process bridesmaid and bride’s cousins hide the shoes of groom and ask him for money in return. It is a lovely interaction to watch between groom and the younger sisters of bride while negotiating about money for the shoes.

Nowadays, this ritual is about money more than fun and entertainment. We can see videos about asking too much money for a pair of shoes by bride’s sisters on the social media.

2. South Korea: The groom’s feet are beaten

In some parts of the South Korea, grooms cannot take their newlywed wives without getting beaten on their feet. After the ceremony, the groomsmen and family members remove the shoes of bride and bind his ankle, and beat on his feet with a stick, or a dried fish.

It is only for fun which doesn’t last long to check the strength and character of the groom.

3. Sweden: Kissing rituals

In Sweden, it is a strange ritual where male guests were allowed to kiss the bride if the groom leave the room at wedding reception and similarly female guest are permitted to kiss the groom if the bride leave the room.

4. China: Crying ritual

Bride cries when she has to leave her home and go with the groom on her wedding day and it’s natural for human but in some parts China, a bride has to practice crying for one hour each day before one month of her wedding.

 In this ritual, a mother of bride joins her after ten days and again after ten days, her grandmother joins too. Known as Zuo Tang in the western Sichuan province, the ritual dates back to China’s Warring States era when the mother of a Zhao princess broke down in tears at her wedding.

5. Kenya: Father spits on the bride

You will be shocked to know that spitting someone regarded as good luck. In Kenya of Masaai community, a father spits on bride’s dress for good luck on her wedding day.

6. Germany: Bride and Groom saw a log into two pieces

In Germany a bride and a groom have to saw the log into two pieces. It is meant for the couple’s strength and team work in their marriage when they face challenges.

7.  Venezuela: The newlyweds secretly leave the party

In Venezuela, a newlyweds couple sneak off from their wedding reception without saying goodbye to their guests. People believe this tradition brings good luck the couple.

8. Romania: The bride is kidnapped

What if a bride disappears before wedding? Nightmare, right? But in Romania there is a tradition where a bride gets kidnapped by her friends and family members before wedding. It is like a movie’s act where a groom has to pay her ransom, it could be through romantic gestures or filling her glass with champagne.

9. Malaysia: The bride and groom are banned from the bathroom

Members of Malaysia and Indonesia’s Tidong people in Borneo have the tradition where a bride and a groom are not allowed to leave their home and can’t use bathroom for three days. They are under the surveillance of guards and allowed to eat only small amount of food and drinks.

If this ritual is not observed then it brings bad luck to the groom and the bride, infidelity and divorce, and even death of their children.

10.  Italy: Nuts are given to newlyweds

In Italy, nuts are given to the guests as a favor to throw at bride and the groom as per tradition. Nowadays it is replaced by coriandoli which means a small piece of paper.
